Term used by Section One when an operative or team approaches a target without communicating with Section, usually because of the risk that the communication will be intercepted by the enemy, betraying the presence of the operative or team.

Term used in The Collective to describe a backup team which, should the primary team fail in its mission, will resolve matters by suicide bombing.

An arms dealer found floating face down in the Mediterranean by a Greek fisherman; Section One takes a keen interest in a list of names found on his body.

Also known as  "dead drop" -- a location where an operative secrets an item that will be picked up later, as arranged, by someone else.
DATA SHIELD
A basic element of the security system used by Section One to protect the information stored in its computers against unauthorized replication. Tatyana is suspected of having compromised a data shield in "Outside the Box."

The procedure during which Section One operatives returning from a mission describe in detail what occurred while they were in the field. Debriefings are recorded and, along with the mission tapes, are routinely and meticulously analyzed.

DEEP CHANNEL
A communications channel that uses a remote frequency that may not be subject to traditional monitoring. Michael tells Birkoff to reroute a deep channel in "Looking For Michael".

When an operative assumes a false identity for a mission that usually entails long-term maintenance and, sometimes, infiltration of the enemy. A deep-cover assignment has Michael marrying Elena Vacek in order to capture her father, an elusive terrorist mastermind.

A scenario in which a nation or nations place their nuclear arsenal on a high state of alert, usually as a result of a perceived threat of a live nuclear launch.

As a student at Paris University in 1984, Dian formed an extremist group called L'Heure Sanguine (The Bloody Hour.) His close friend and associate was Michael Samuelle. When Michael went to prison it was Rene who took care of his sister. In "Half Life," Michael is ordered to infiltrate L'Heure Sanguine and betray Rene to Section One. Played by Denis Forest.

The quaint American town near which The Center's Alpha satellite crashes in "Catch A Falling Star", and to which Michael and Nikita are sent to recover the comsat, only to discover that Dingman's Hollow is a Black Storm sleeper base.

The master list of all Section One operatives, including their locations, psych profiles, etc. It nearly falls into the wrong hands in "Gray" and is lost; in "War" it's revealed that Red Cell has, apparently, acquired it, and broken the encryption, allowing them to wage a global assault on Section operatives.

One of the top people in Red Cell, he first appears in "War," in which he captures and tortures Nikita and Michael to acquire information about Section One; Nikita shoots him and leaves him for dead, but he reappears in "Cat and Mouse," having created a Nikita doppleganger named Abby, who takes Nikita's place in Section. Nikita foils his plan and he is captured. His current status: unknown. Played by James Faulkner.

Costume designer for La Femme Nikita, who has gone on to do the same quality work for the series Mutant X and Other People. Prior to LFN, she worked on numerous TV movies, including Sword of Gideon (1986), Spies, Lies & Naked Thighs (1988), Drop Dead Gorgeous (1991), Spenser: A Savage Place (1995) and Double Jeopardy (1996). She was nominated for a Gemini (Best Costume Design) four times for her work on LFN, winning once (for the episode "New Regime").
